For foreigner/KOREA Interview

[English] Korea Fingerboard Collector Seokwon Kang (@platinumstefano)

by LAZYPIPE 2024. 5. 8.

It seems that he might be the person who has spent the most money and made the most direct purchases among those currently active in the Korean fingerboard scene.

it's little part of his collections

What could have motivated him to purchase numerous fingerboard brands?
So, I prepare an interview with Seokwon Kang (@platinumstefano)

Before we start the interview, Can you please introduce yourself to fingerboarders around the world?
Hi, I'm Seokwon Kang (@platinumstefano). Glad to introduce myself to you guys.

How did you come to know about fingerboarding?
When I was a teenager, techdeck landed in South Korea and it was like a bomb. But I thought was fad. I tried ollie with my techdeck, but at that moment I was shit at fingerboarding. Time flies, I saw Kevyoso's edit on youtube, and I was curious about it again. So, I ordered my first wooden fingerboard on Fingerex which is one of popular fingerboards webstore in Korea.

Have you been consistently fingerboarding from then until now?
Yeah, It's been around 3 years to Fbing maybe. I'm a kind of newbie. Still struggling with lines, tricks, fliming and getting inspired by someone else on instagram.

What is your occupation?
I'm a clarinet player which means I'm a orchestral, chamber musician. Sometimes teaching students in school and having gigs in nowdays.

You've made purchases from numerous overseas companies. If you had to pick the best and worst companies you've dealt with, which would they be?
Yeah, I spend more or less like 5,000$ for buying fingerboarding stuffs. It's hard to say  which brand is the best and the worst. Otherwise there are plenty of good brands and bad brands. However, I want to pick Flatface for the best brand. As you know Blackriver is the biggest fingerboarding company and they are corporation which means they have many people to work. But I heard Flatface is family-business. Even they're big company, but I think it's hard to handle with lots of situations.(Shipping,Making,Marketing) At that point, shout out to Mike and his family for make good vibes to the scene. Last but not least, Flatface's shipping servicement is the best.

If you have any tips for overseas shopping that you've personally found effective, could you share them?
The biggest issues with buying fingerboards internationally is the shipping.
In my case, if I didn't get anything after the payment, First, I send the e-mail to them with niceley.
Second, no actions from the maker or website, I send the mail again with strongly.
Third part is funny. I sue them with my personal lawyer with internationally.

What's your favorite fingerboard setup, and who are your favorite fingerboarders?
For fun, Flatface G15.12 with BRT 32mm and Flatface G4 wheels.
For cool, BLCNY with Dynamic trucks.
John Cowart,Mike Schneider and Heewon Kim.
They're all time best. haha

How often do you engage in fingerboarding these days, and what's your favorite trick?
Honestley, I tried to Fbing much as I can, but it's hard to get time for cool edits.
But still fiddling with my boards in everwhere.
SW flip to nose, tail slide is my fav.

I'm curious about your personal thoughts on how the Korean fingerboard scene could progress.
Buying some guns, Being a pimp, snitching, drinking, smoking, investing for Bitcoins etc.

What do you think is the allure of fingerboarding?
They have no limits. You can shred in anywhere and anytime when you want.

Lastly, is there anything else you'd like to say?
Love and peace.

Thank you!
