[English] 'JNKY RADIO' CEO Nyre Malik(@pockstarr) interview.

by LAZYPIPE 2024. 5. 13.

Recently, we interviewed Nyre Malik (@pockstarr),
who runs the hot brand in the fingerboard scene, Jnky Radio.

Contrary to his distinctive hip and Y2K style,
his demeanor is surprisingly kind and open-minded,
which was truly welcoming and appreciated.

Let's delve into Nyre Malik, also known as pockstarr,
who left sponsorship with Cowply to focus on his own brand 'Jnky Radio'!

Before we start interview, please introduce yourself?
considering that there might be people who are not yet familiar with you?
What’s up my names Nyre or pock !

When and how did you start fingerboarding?
I started skateboarding back in about 2007 and whenever I was grounded which was a lot of the time , I would just tech deck all day.

Can you briefly tell us about your sponsors and how you came to be sponsored?
I’m sponsored by dynamic trucks, piro wheels, saxtape, ark ramps and I recently left cowply to focus on my own company. I got these sponsors by just fbing for fun and not expecting or asking for anything.

Since March of this year, you’ve been running  jnkyradio. Can you explain the origins of jnkyradio?
Jnky is everything I’m into outside of fbing mashed into one. I’ve spent some years helping out a lot of companies creative direction and graphics - I felt it was time to make my own ! Also realizing I have a influence down to small things like putting a crt tv in the right corner of my desk slightly tilted towards the camera played a part- once I seen so many people influenced by that I knew it was time!

Watching your videos and mood of jnkyradio, it seems like you enjoy hype, retro, and Y2K vibes. Do you have any sources of inspiration for that?
Pretty much all my inspiration comes from my childhood and skateboarding.

Why did you name it Jnky Radio, and I'm curious about its meaning!
If fbing was a drug we would all be junkies so jnky is short for junky. The radio part comes from my love of music ! So I put them together now we have “ jnky radio “

How often do you fingerboard these days, and do you have any tips when trying out new tricks?
I fb at least once every other day or little by little throughout the day depending on what I got going on in life. Tips to trying out new tricks is practice! Took me months to years to learn some tricks- they will come with time !

Your trucks seem quite loose. Can you share your truck setup?
My truck setup is dynamic special editions. When I first get the trucks I take out the pivot cup and the bottom bushing and that’s how I make them loose.

Who are your favorite fingerboarders?
 Sam Aronie

What music do you enjoy listening to while fingerboarding or in your usual time?
hip hop, jungle and a lot of video game sound tracks

The plan for Jnky Radio and me in the future?
Plans for jnky in the future is to just keep producing stuff I think is good and set myself apart from other companies! Plans for my self is to just keep making content for fun like I’ve been doing!

Finally, do you have any words you’d like to share with the Korean fingerboarding scene?
I wanna say thank you ! Since March you guys been super supportive I didn’t know I was known in Korea it’s really cool ! Keep expanding ! I see a lot of really good filming and fbing from you guys ! And thanks for having me!
